December 3, 2008

veggie-platterWhen looking for the best fat loss foods the first thing to look for is what works for you. Everyone is different physiologically speaking and we all lose weight at different levels. The main thing is to just get going and the results will follow. To get you started here are 10 tips on what fat loss foods to eat.

1) Eat Whole Foods that don’t have a lot of fat and carbohydrates. They must have low saturated fats and low sugar content. When you read a food label check the saturated fat and sugars which will be listed as grams. Some liquid meal replacement drinks have as much as 24 grams of sugar.

2) Drinking 8 glasses of water a day between meals not only gives you that full feeling but flushes harmful toxins from your body. Water also acts as a transport system for nutrients to reach all areas of your body. If your urine is not clear you are in a dehydrated condition.

3) Protein provides the building blocks of your body and supports organ and tissue growth. Protein must come from a low fat, high quality source like chicken and turkey breast, egg whites & fish.

Food Fact:
4 oz of shrimp has 120 calories, 23 grams protein, 1 gram of carbs, 2 grams fat.

4) Balance your meals – 4 or more meals a day every 3 hours should be divided into thirds with lean protein (40%), complex carbohydrates (40%) and healthy fats (20%). This combination of food is 100 times more powerful than any diet pill or supplement on the market. Multiple meals every day increases metabolism and fat loss.

5) Avoid processed foods – These products (usually ready in 20-30 minutes) are packed full of preservatives and high levels of fat, sugar and salt. Low fat products are a big industry now so if you must eat them read the nutrition labels for higher than normal fat or sugar content.

Food Fact:
1 cup of Strawberries contain 46 calories with 10 grams of carbs & .6 grams of fat

6) If you’re not eating enough calories you’ll not only lose muscle, you will also lose energy and endurance. Naturally you won’t be able to get through a workout with lack of strength. Your body will also adjust to a calorie deficiency and slow down metabolism (the ability for your body to burn calories).

7) Recommended Protein Foods: Skinless Chicken & Turkey Breast, Cod, Egg whites, Atlantic Salmon, Buffalo (top round), Beef (top round & top sirloin), 96% Lean Ground Beef, Tuna (canned in water), Shrimp. These are very powerful fat loss foods.

A fat Burning Diet And What It Takes To Lose Weight

November 8, 2008

fat-burning-diet-salmonA fat burning diet takes simple preparation, consuming the right foods at a set time every time. Low calorie diets at first successful but soon reaches a dieting plateau. What you need to know is what foods are thermogenic and start working on a fat burning diet.

When you think of a weight losing diet do you think starvation and diet pills? On the contrary multiple meals a day every few hours with regular food is the proper way to lose weight.

Thermogenic fat burning foods are lean protein from solid foods like boneless, skinless chicken breast.

Food Fact: 6 egg whites contain 21 grams of protein with no fat.

Thermogenic is the body core rising caused by other sources creating calorie burning and higher metabolism.

What About Shellfish & Game Meats?

Game meats like buffalo, elk, venison and bison are very lean red meats similar to top round and lean sirloin (the free-range, grass fed and organic varieties are especially beneficial).

Most freshwater fish, shellfish and other seafood are an advantage as well. Natural and organic [not compulsory] egg whites [or egg beaters] without the yolks is another great protein source.

Artificial weight loss products are not necessary when combining exercise and these fat burning foods. Losing your desired amount of weight is ten times easier after changing eating habits.

High Fiber Foods Are Imperative

Broccoli, salad greens & cauliflower are great for the digestive system since the roughage they provide increases thermogenesis and greater levels of metabolism.

Food Fact: 10 spears of asparagus contains 40 calories with 6 grams of carbs, 4 grams of protein & no fat.

Fiber rich foods help increase the digestive path which in turn burns more calories. Drinking 8 glasses of water every day helps deliver nutrients throughout the body and cleanses as well. Too many refined foods, dairy products & fatty red meat will send you backwards on your weight loss goals.

Vegetables and fruits are considered to be fat burning foods, consuming them raw or slightly cooked will keep all the nutritional values complete.

Essential Fruits Are A Big Piece of The Fat Loss Equation

Fresh fruit is an ideal selection for dropping pounds. Fruits are simple carbs, healthy natural sweeteners that give us that full feeling & nutritional requirement we need every day. People differ widely in their ability to process carbs.

Food Fact: 1 cup of Blueberries contain 82 calories with 20 grams of carbs & .6 grams of fat.

Foods that burn fat refer to a particular type of food that either burns fat accumulated in the body or improves metabolism.

Including these types of foods in your established diet can easily burn the fat from your body and keep yourself fit and well.

Carbs: How Can They Help You Break Down Fat?

Green beans are one of the lowest low carb foods in the bean family. Whilst black beans, red beans, Garbanzo beans, and lima beans pack nearly 30 grams of carbohydrates into a serving, green beans register in at only 5 grams of carbs per 3/4 cup serving.

Due to eating only low carb foods, glycogen is used for energy, and this causes a decline in water weight. Also bare in mind that reducing carbs is also limiting calories.

Did You Know?
Muscle is composed of over 70% water and is an essential transport mechanism of vitamins, minerals & even carbohydrates. Low water intake creates a toxic build-up of urea, ammonia & uric acid. Multiply your bodyweight by .55 and that’s how many ounces you should drink everyday.

Stevia: A Widely Recommended Natural Sweetener

Stevia has gained active attention with the rise in demand for low sugar replacements. It’s been used for centuries by indigenous South American tribes as a sweetener in yerba mate and medicinal teas for treating heartburn and other afflictions.

Food Fact: 1 oz of almonds have 170 calories with 6 grams of carbs, 5 grams of protein & 15 grams of GOOD fat.

Low carbohydrate nutrition became very fashionable a few years ago as research tied it’s consumption with higher blood insulin levels with obesity.

It was a perception that these foods would lead to people using and burning away their fat storage for energy instead of carbohydrates.

An Important Reason Why Low Calorie Diets Don’t Work.

Low Calorie Diets don’t work since the human body adjusts immediately to decreasing calorie intake and slows down metabolism to allow energy storage, namely fat.

When you think about exercise is it grueling workouts or a 30 minute walk around the park? Any kind of exercise is an advantage and once you get moving your body will respond. We were not created to be inactive, cardiovascular & strength workouts like yoga, hiking or lifting weights in the gym will melt away the pounds.

Fruit salad coctail on a plateEating a minimum of 4 meals daily every 3 to 4 hours keeps your metabolism levels above par and you’ll have a full feeling throughout the day. Following that arrangement along with planning and exercise is the key behind a fat burning diet.

What Are The Quickest Ways To Lose Weight?

October 10, 2008

New Years Resolutions haunt many of us. There is no escaping that spare tire let alone trying to find ways of making all the air escape from it. It’s in our best interest to lose weight, but actually getting to the point where we actually do it can always be tough.

We always find ourselves asking: “What is the quickest way to lose weight?” and there are simple and quick things you can do in order to lose weight without much change to your overall routine. You want to avoid surgery because it’s dangerous and costly.

Pills are also high in cost but carry with them side effects that no one really wants.

1.   Just say no! To refined sugars that is. Refined sugars are found in a many processed foods. In all reality, they are foods “touched by man”. If the food is packaged and processed by someone it most likely has refined sugars.

Cereal is a great example. Always keep away from large amounts of salt, sugar and fat.

2.   Always read the labels! There is no excuse to say “Oh – I didn’t know [insert name of chemical] was in it!” – all foods are required by law to have ingredient labels. Do not just read the short list of stuff. The real obtrusive chemicals are found below the label, in the fine print.

The simple rule is if you cannot pronounce it put the box down. Take cereal for instance. Sugar Snaps are loaded with sugar and plenty of things no normal human being could ever pronounce.

Toss it aside and grab a box of Shredded Wheat instead! It has just one ingredient and that is wheat. Granted, Shredded Wheat is bland as a cardboard box so sweeten it up with some sliced fruit like bananas or strawberries.

Use 2% milk unless you are looking at fat-free in which case go for skim.

healthy foods

3.   What is the quickest way to lose weight? Balance is the key to good nutrition. The above offers the basis for a well-rounded meal. The milk gives you much needed protein, the whole wheat gives us good carbohydrates and peanut butter provides healthy fat as well as a great source of protein.

If you can maintain this type of combination throughout the day and add in a great cardio workout, you will bust the battle of the bulge in no time!

4.   Protein is nature’s fat burner. Our bodies take roughly three hours to digest the meals we consume and lean protein (i.e. chicken, beef, turkey) are what you call “thermogenic”. That means they burn calories better than anything else does.

If you consume a meal every three hours, you will never hunger for junk food. Besides the norm, consume fish like salmon and trout.

Be careful though as too much fish can create a protein in your body that can actually increase your chances of gaining weight. Other protein sources include egg whites, cottage cheese (non-fat of course) and whey protein to supplement your other sources.

5.   Carbohydrates are your friend – really! The no carb diets look good on paper but that is about all. Atkins says you can eat as much meat as you want just no carbs. That is awesome if you want to clog your arteries with fat. We need energy in order to properly work out.

Complex Carbohydrates (the good ones) gives us this energy. Spinach, Kale (and other leafy greens), Broccoli, Brussel Sprouts, Red Peppers, Tomatoes, Legumes (beans, lentils) and even Yams, Sweet Potatoes, Barley and sugar free oatmeal.

6.    Hydrate! If your body is not hydrated properly, you can feel weak, dizzy and out of sorts. The water also works to flush out toxins in your system. 8 to 10 eight ounce glasses of water will do it. Tea, Coffee and Kool Aid does not count as water.

7.   Exercise. Go to the gym and hire a personal trainer. They know their stuff and can get you started down the right path. Three to four times a week should do it.

If you cannot get to the gym try working out at home, it takes more discipline but can be more challenging as well.

Now the next time someone asks what is the quickest way to lose weight you can answer him or her. Eat right, eat well and balance it all out with cardiovascular/resistance training exercises that you enjoy.

Eat Right & Get Going!
